Get to know Jean-Claude


My name is Jean-Claude Wilkens.

I am 61.

I am CEO of A Coeur Joie, the French choral association, and its publishing house in France. This organization is the major amateur choral representative in the country with over 10,000 members and major activities such as the Choralies festival in Vaison-la-Romaione every three years.

When / where did you first come in contact with choral music?

Quite late, when I was a music teacher in Belgium, I met choral conductors by chance and decided to interest myself a little more to the subject.


What is the greatest experience you’ve had inside the choral world?

I served the International Federation for Choral Music as secretary general during over 10 years, being in contact with wonderful major programs in choral music, but the best experience was to manage the World Youth Choir for many years.


What is the greatest experience you’ve had outside the choral world?

Sailing… for me one of the unique hobby’s to make you feel outside of the daily hectic world.


Which activities of ECA-EC have you participated in, and what is your experience of it?

As a board member, I try to be interested and helpful in the overall program of the federation. This term, I have been concentrating more on the music, since I have been invited to join the music commission.


What is your favourite flavour ice cream?

Lemon, coffee and chocolate.
