Tourist information:

Aosta, a pearl in the heart of the Alps in the North-West of Italy, around 100 km from Turin and 180 km from Milan, is situated near the Italian entrance of the Mont Blanc Tunnel.

Aosta was settled in proto-historic times and then became the Roman colony of Augusta Praetoria Salassorum: the ancient town walls are still preserved almost in their entirety, with some other Roman ruins such as the gates and the theatre.
