Get to know Kristiina

Kristiina Veerde, 24, currently manager of the Estonian National Girls’ Choir LEELO and working at the Estonian Choral Association for Europa Cantat XX.

I have also worked as conductor of the children’s choir Riinimanda and youth choir Mitte-Riinimanda.

When / where did you first come in contact with choral music?

If I remember correctly I started to sing at a school’s pupil’s choir at the age of 7 and then just continued. I think my teacher said that I can sing and I should join the choir, so why not?

What is the greatest experience you’ve had inside the choral world?

It’s hard to point out only one – the Song Celebrations are always amazing, but I think one of the recent highlights was when the choir I sing in won Grand Prix at an international choral competition.

What is the greatest experience you’ve had outside the choral world?

Jesus Christ, seriously? I think my whole life has been a great experience and will be!

What is the best part of the concert?

For a performer I think the final applause – then you really get the energy back from the audience.

Which activities of ECA-EC have you participated in, and what is your experience of it?Europa Cantat XIX in Pécs was my first activity and it was just amazing – I heard great stories about Europa Cantat, but experiencing it is completely different and much cooler! Then of course the recent General Assembly, which was a great place for networking and getting to know the choral scene in Europe.

What is your favorite flavour ice cream?

I am not very picky, so I think stracciatella. But if it’s sweet and good, anything.

An anekdote that makes you laugh.

I am an Estonian – we never laugh!
