Young Singers at Expo in Milan

Almost 40 young singers from across Europe met in Milan around May 9th, the Day of Europe, to represent choral music in Europe at the World EXPO 2015.  This project was conceived by Jubilate Music Association, Feniarco and IFCM.

Despite some last-minute challenges, with the great help of the Jubilate Music Association which invested a lot to save the event, REVOICE! International Vocal Ensemble - alumni singers of the Eurochoir performed in Milan and at the Italian Pavilion of the Universal Exposition as planned. They were conducted by Alessandro Cadario (IT) and the five REVOICE conductors and performed a broad range of pieces including a first performance of the Hymn of Europe arranged by Gunnar Erikson for the occasion.

The choir could also express its mourning for the victims of the recent Nepalese earthquake by singing in the Nepal Pavilion, a sign of sharing that was deeply appreciated by Nepalese people attending the exposition.

You will find an article (in Italian) about the event >> here. If you want to know more about the programme of the EXPO 2015 project and future concerts, you will find the programme >> here.

VOICE - Inspiratational Guide

Singing Belongs to Everyone
How to get millions of children singing within the span of a generation

If a child sings, it is because it has learned it somewhere: at home, at school, in a choir... One effort of one of the million choirs all over Europe may just be that decisive nudge that will get millions of children singing within the span of the next generation. A new inspirational guide published by Koor&Stem in the frame of the VOICE project describes all kinds of initiatives that have been designed to get more children singing. Share it within your own choral organisation or choir! The brochure is available in English, Dutch, French and German and can be downloaded freely on www.koorenstem.be/singing-belongs-to-everyone The inspirational guide will be presented at the EMC European Forum on Music in Riga on June 13th 2015.

VOICE project reaching its end

The VOICE project is reaching its official end.

After three years of intense activities, festivals, training courses, research programmes, meetings and brainstorming sessions, the VOICE project is reaching its official end on the 31 May 2015. But reaching an end does not mean disappearing: the accumulated experience and the innovative ideas developed along the project are already bearing fruits in terms of new cooperations and new activities across Europe, and we hope that the reports that will be available at the end of June will trigger new ideas and collaborations in the choral world.

First international choir festival in Lebanon

The European Choral Association – Europa Cantat supported the first International Choir Festival in Lebanon which was organized at the end of April 2015 by the Fayha Choir, the Azm Cultural Centre and Polyfollia. Secretary General Sonja Greiner was invited as expert to speak in the framework of a workshop for conductors and composers and give advisory support to the foundation of the first Lebanese Choral Association.
This first international choir festival in Lebanon, with concerts across the country and a final weekend in Tripoli, gathered choirs from different parts of Lebanon, guests choirs from Dubai and Armenia and a number of international guests. There were many wonderful and touching moments in this festival which gathered Christian and Muslim singers peacefully under the festival theme of “Voices in Harmony”, with numerous performance of sacred and secular music in Arabic and many other languages, workshops for conductors and for singers, and many inspiring talks. The local team is already working on the 2nd edition of the festival in 2016. If you are interested contact manage@fayhachoir.org.
